The name of BECKETT or BECKET is derived from the residence of its first bearers at the beckhead, that is at the source of the beck, beck being the Anglo-Saxon word for brook. The lands of this early English family who first took the surname of Beckett were located around the head of a beck or brook.

Families bearing the surname BECKETT were at an early date located in the English Counties of Somerset, York, Wilts, Cornwall, Norfolk, and Lincoln, as well as in the city and the vicinity of London. They ere for the most part of the yeomanry and landed gentry of Great Britain. (Name of Beckett by Media Research Bureau.)
