Career Information - Management Trainee Program

The BNSF Management Trainee Program is designed for recent college graduates, who, with proper exposure, mentoring and career development, will become our managers of tomorrow. Selected candidates possess a skill set BNSF believes will enhance our ability to meet current corporate goals as well as contribute to our long-term success.

Trainees receive cross-functional and cross-departmental training during their 6-month training period, as well as exposure to all departments through an extensive, one-month orientation program. Each trainee may be provided with a BNSF mentor for career and personal guidance. The training itself is tailored for the individual and monitored by the sponsoring business group and the Human Resources Department.

Internship Program

The BNSF Internship Program provides college students with practical on-the-job experience in a business environment. The time students spend with our company allows them to evaluate BNSF as a place for future employment and for BNSF to evaluate the intern as a future employee. The internship program serves as a significant screening tool for the next year's Corporate Management Trainee class. During the internship, the student receives evaluations based on his or her performance and overall contribution to the organization. These evaluations are then used for future hiring consideration.  Candidates for internships are those full-time students within three years of graduation in an undergraduate degree program or those pursuing a graduate degree.
